Notice how the jeans, leather jacket, and even sunglasses helped established a mystique of rebellion and freedom that has commonly become associated with motorcycle culture.
That, in a nutshell, is the appeal of motorcycle apparel. The clothing helps define an individual’s lifestyle and that lifestyle helps define the individual. For the motorcycle culture, there has always been an affiliation with rugged individualism. The motorcycle apparel that motorcycle enthusiasts wear helps define this individualism even if, ironically, the individualism draws from a collective culture.
Vintage Clothing and the Motorcycle World
Getting back to the early days of the 1960s, there are also a great number of vintage motorcycle apparel lovers out there. In fact, this type of apparel has become highly prized by collectors as well as those who simply enjoy wearing the vintage clothing out on the road. Guess it depends on why one is purchasing the outfit.
Now, just because the apparel is old, does not mean that it is not good for the road. It all depends, of course, on the condition that the motorcycle apparel is in. If it has been properly taken care of, then even if it is decades old, the clothing should hold up quite well when one heads out on the road. So, never knock vintage motorcycle apparel.
